Based in Dundee, Abertay has played a key part in the cultural rebirth of the city, which now has a vibrant digital design scene and is eagerly anticipating the opening of the V&A Dundee as part of a £1bn project to transform the waterfront area.
Dating back to 1888, the University is rooted in providing quality higher education to students from all backgrounds, whether they are from the local area, Scotland, the rest of the UK, the EU or further abroad.
With approximately 5,000 students, Abertay uses its small size as a strength – it’s the best size for the modern world - agile, adaptable and fast. It’s also what’s behind the institution's reputation for friendliness. At Abertay it is easy to get to know people and make friends quickly and also get time with your lecturers.
1,200 students from over 60 countries call Abertay their home. International students get the full immersive experience of Scotland. They find themselves in classes alongside people from a wide mix of countries and plenty locals.
Abertay was the first in the world to offer degrees in computer games and ethical hacking. Grand Theft Auto was created by an Abertay student and the game originated in the city. Dundee is renowned for design and creativity and is the hub of Scotland’s booming games industry.
As the first UK Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education, Abertay is an internationally-recognised thought leader in the field and is currently the only European institution ranked inside the global top 10 for postgraduate courses (Princeton Review 2017).
